Clearwater International advises SkyBrands on its majority divestment to CataCap

Clearwater International Denmark has advised the owners of SkyBrands A/S (“SkyBrands”), a leading European licensing specialist within the home textile and apparel market, on its 60% divestment to CataCap, a Danish private equity fund.

Since its establishment in 2008, Skybrands has successfully developed into a leading international licensing specialist within branded home textile and apparel products sold to age groups from pre-school to teenagers. SkyBrands has its headquarters in Vejle, Denmark, with international offices in Manchester and a recently opened office in Dubai from which some of the largest retailers in Europe and the Middle East are serviced.

SkyBrands’ licensors include a long list of highly recognized international brands such as Disney, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ferrari and Universal’s Minions. SkyBrands develops and supplies branded products such as bed linens, towels, pillows, T-shirts and swimwear. CataCap’s investment will strengthen the growth of SkyBrands and provide a strong platform going forward.

The SkyBrands deal marks the second successful transaction within the home textile licensing market for Clearwater International, following the sale of Character World (UK) to Palatine Private Equity (UK) in December 2014.

“Having worked with Clearwater International on a previous transaction, it made sense to seek the team’s expertise once again in order to complete this deal. The team was highly attentive, had valuable experience of dealing with PE investors and provided clear, pragmatic advice. We were aware of the key negotiation points, and I knew that Clearwater would be dedicated to supporting and assisting us throughout the process. It was a pleasure to work with them and I would highly recommend Clearwater International as excellent corporate finance advisers.”

Jan Kølbek, Founder and CEO of SkyBrands

“SkyBrands is a very well-managed company that has experienced rapid growth since its establishment, due to a highly competent and focused management team with a thorough knowledge of the retail industry. Jan Kølbek (Founder of SkyBrands) and Kristian Busk Mouritzen (COO and shareholder of SkyBrands) have established a strong position in the market within a short period and it has been crucial for our investment that they continue with a large ownership stake. We see a lot of potential in SkyBrands and look forward to realizing this potential in close co-operation with the company’s management and employees.”
