Clearwater International has advised Hobs Reprographics, the UK’s largest independent 3D, digital & print support services company, on its investment from Business Growth Fund (BGF).
Employing over 300 people across 29 offices in the UK with total revenue in excess of €40m, Hobs provides state-of-the-art 3D printing. Founded in 1969 as a reprographics specialist, printing architectural drawings for customers in the legal, healthcare and utility sectors, the business has expanded to provide animation, augmented & virtual reality and CGI solutions to a broad array of industries including engineering, construction and product designers.
The deal will help the business further expand on its Hobs Studios, which opened in Manchester in December 2013 and London in May 2014. BGF’s investment will help the business achieve the long-term aim of becoming a national service provider of all 3D printing-related solutions.
A team at Clearwater International led by partner Paul Jones, supported by director Nick Horrocks and associate Oliver Wheatley, advised the shareholders of Hobs Reprographics on the deal.
“I have been delighted to work with Clearwater International over the course of the project. Through their hard work and knowledge of the market, they have been able to structure a deal which meets the disparate requirements of myself, as a shareholder looking to realise a lifetime’s work, and my management team, who are the future of the business, as well as ensuring the necessary capital to move the business forward in order to take advantage of its many growth opportunities. The development of a trusting relationship borne out of months of discussion prior to engaging Clearwater to structure a deal that worked for my company, the team and my family led to a productive and supportive working relationship. I would have no hesitation in recommending Clearwater International.”
Kieran O'Brien, Chief Executive at Hobs Reprographics
“The investment from BGF reflects the fast-changing world of digital & print support services and marks the next exciting stage in Hobs’ development. Hobs now has the opportunity to build upon its leading position at the technological forefront of the industry. The funding will enable Hobs to roll out its state-of-the-art 3D printing studios across the UK, as well as consolidating its position as a provider of services to both leading public and private organisations and the legal sector. This growth capital is the perfect fit for the company. The long-term nature of BGF’s investment gives the management team the incentive and funding to ensure that this creative and pioneering business reaches its full potential.”
