Clearwater Corporate Finance has advised national law firm, HBJ Gateley Wareing, on its move to incorporate the Manchester commercial practice of Halliwells.
The move comprises 40 partners from the Manchester-based banking and finance, corporate, real estate, real estate litigation, corporate recovery, commercial litigation, intellectual property, employment, pensions and construction business units of Halliwells. The office will now operate in Manchester under the HBJ Gateley Wareing name.
The step will give HBJ an established, profitable presence in the competitive North West legal market, strengthening its national reach and adding an eighth location to its existing offices in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, London, Nottingham and Dubai.
As part of the move, HBJ Gateley Wareing will also welcome nine fee earners from Halliwells’ London office. The enlarged HBJ Gateley Wareing practice will have more than 750 fee earners and staff, including 140 partners, with turnover expected to exceed £65m for the year ending 30 April 2011.
Partner, Mike Reeves, and assistant director, Jon Clarke, led the advisory team for Clearwater. Mike Reeves said: “This much-anticipated move provides HBJ Gateley Wareing with a strong and reputable presence in the North West marketplace. The divisions making the move across to HBJ Gateley Wareing have continued to perform strongly throughout the downturn and provide a strong platform from which to grow the firm’s offering in the region. The fee earners that will be joining the London office will also strengthen the firm’s presence in the capital.”
Joint senior partner at HBJ Gateley Wareing, Michael Ward, added: “With this move, we are being joined by a team of partners and staff of the highest quality. They are looking forward to putting the recent past behind them and focusing on what they do best – delivering the very best client-focused, commercial legal service.”
The Manchester office of HBJ Gateley Wareing will continue to operate out of the current Halliwells office in Hardman Square, Manchester.
