Peter McKeown has joined Clearwater Corporate Finance as a senior consultant. His role will be to help businesses with reviewing their funding structures, assist with negotiations with their Banks and to find new sources of funding.
Peter, who was previously Royal Bank of Scotland’s regional director for the East Midlands, has 40 years’ experience in banking. As regional director he was responsible for around 180 key corporate relationships in the region representing a lending book of circa £750 million.
Peter started his career at the former Williams & Glyns Bank in the North West, and joined RBS when he moved to Nottingham in 1984, initially as a local branch manager but later moving into corporate banking in 1994.
His appointment is a further expansion of Clearwater’s debt advisory team and follows that of Chris Smith as the national head of restructuring and debt advisory services. Peter, who lives in Nottingham, will mainly focus on clients in the Midlands.
Phil Burns, managing partner with Clearwater, said: “Peter has been a well-known figure in the Midlands banking community for the last 25 years, and has a wealth of experience to help mid-market businesses, whether they are in discussions with their current banks, refinancing or seeking alternative funding sources or negotiating debt for equity swaps.
“His appointment represents a further investment in our debt advisory team to help clients negotiate their way through the current difficult banking waters.
“The difficulty in sourcing funding in the current market has created a growing need for specialist debt advisors. Many over-leveraged businesses are in need of debt restructuring and even very successful companies may find their bankers are becoming twitchy and so have to look for new backers.”
Peter McKeown added: “Clearwater have a strong reputation for creatively solving client problems. The experience I bring to the team gives an extra dimension and adds further value to the offer Clearwater provide to mid-market businesses.”
