D&M Holdings acquires broadcast equipment supplier Calrec Audio Ltd

Calrec Audio Ltd, a leading manufacturer of audio production equipment for broadcasters, has been acquired by premium audio/visual equipment provider D&M Holdings.

Clearwater Corporate Finance advised Calrec on the deal, which will help to enhance the company’s growth by providing it with greater economies of scale and opportunities for cross-selling.

Calrec, which employs 106 people in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, produces audio mixing consoles that are capable of handling the most complex live and outdoor broadcasting events. Established in 1956, the company has won numerous awards and played a pioneering role in the broadcast industry.

Calrec sells its products worldwide through a network of distributors. Clients include the BBC, ITV, NBC, CBS, Fox, MBS and Asahi. The company has significantly increased its market share in the past few years following the introduction of a suite of new digital sound desks.

“The acquisition of Calrec is an important step in our stated growth strategy to expand into new markets, specifically commercial audio/visual,” said D&M Holdings’ chairman and chief executive officer Eric C. Evans.

He added: “As it has with our other premium brands, the D&M business platform will allow Calrec to continue to perform at the highest levels while staying true to the uniqueness that has led to its past success. By becoming part of D&M, Calrec is better positioned to further develop their technology and expand its global reach.”

“The owners recognised that the company could substantially accelerate its growth by working with a larger corporate. This deal will allow it to benefit from enhanced research and development, greater economies of scale, complementary products and increased distribution channels.”
